Pardee Hospital Receives Top "A" Grade in Leapfrog's Hospital Safety Score

Written by Adam Fisher

Pardee Hospital has received a top grade for its commitment to protecting patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections. The Leapfrog Group awarded Pardee an "A" in its Spring 2015 Hospital Safety Score. Pardee has received an “A” rating five consecutive times, currently the longest consecutive stretch in western North Carolina.

Pardee Hospital is honored and pleased to have been awarded an “A” by the LeapFrog Group in their Hospital Safety Score for the fifth consecutive time. We at Pardee remain committed to patient safety and the continued acknowledgement from the LeapFrog Group speaks to the institutional commitment to this goal. This is an honor to be shared with the associates of Pardee Hospital, all of whom come in contact with patients in one form or another. We strive to continue to improve on this tradition of patient safety and remain humbled by this award,” stated Dr. David Ellis, Interim Chief Medical Officer, Pardee Hospital.

Calculated under the guidance of Leapfrog's Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single "A," "B," "C," "D," or "F" score representing a hospital's overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm. The Hospital Safety Score is fully transparent, and its website offers a full analysis of the data and methodology used in determining grades.

"Safety should come first for our families when we pick a hospital, because errors and infections are common and deadly," said Leapfrog CEO Leah Binder. "No hospital is perfect, but we congratulate the co-workers of Pardee for achieving an "A" and showing us that Pardee makes the well-being of patients a top priority."

The Hospital Safety Score is an initiative of The Leapfrog Group (www.leapfroggroup.org), a national nonprofit organization using the collective leverage of large purchasers of health care to initiate breakthrough improvements in the safety, quality and affordability of health care for Americans. The flagship Leapfrog Hospital Survey allows purchasers to structure their contracts and purchasing to reward the highest performing hospitals. The Leapfrog Group was founded in November 2000 with support from the Business Roundtable and national funders and is now independently operated with support from its purchaser and other members.

The Leapfrog Group is an independent industry watchdog and its hospital safety rating is the only one to be peer-reviewed in the Journal of Patient Safety. The Leapfrog scores are free to the public and designed to give consumers information they can use to protect themselves and their families when facing a hospital stay.
