In 2012, 2009 and 2006, The Commission on Cancer gave Pardee Hospital the Outstanding Achievement Award

Cancer Treatment

If you have been diagnosed with cancer, our compassionate, knowledgeable team is committed to getting you well and keeping you well.

Our highly trained staff includes board-certified oncologists, hematologists and radiation oncologists, as well as oncology-certified clinicians. We offer the following cancer treatment services:

  • Chemotherapy

  • Clinical trials

  • Radiation therapy

  • Surgery

Hematology and oncology

Our board-certified hematologists and oncologists specialize in treating cancer and blood disorders with advanced, personalized treatments, including:

  • Chemotherapy: Chemotherapy, which is medication to fight cancer, is typically administered through a vein in your arm, though sometimes it can be taken by mouth with a pill.

  • Blood transfusions: Your doctor may recommend a blood transfusion if you have a cancer or treatment that causes internal bleeding, low blood counts or anemia.

  • Intravenous (IV) infusion: Your doctor may recommend an intravenous (through the vein) infusion for complementary therapy, such as high-dose vitamin C.

  • Injections: Medication is administered through your skin or a vein.

  • Parenteral (intravenous) nutrition: This therapy gives your body the nutrition it needs through a vein if you are unable to eat.

For your convenience, we offer outpatient chemotherapy and blood transfusions 24 hours a day, seven days a week. To schedule an appointment, please consult with your physician.

Radiation therapy

If radiation therapy is recommended as part of your cancer treatment, a team of highly trained medical professionals will work together to make sure you receive the best possible care while keeping your radiation dosage as low as reasonably achievable. A radiation oncologist, a doctor who specializes in using radiation to treat cancer, will lead your care team.

Our team includes:

  • Three board-certified radiation oncologists

  • A licensed, registered nurse

  • Board-certified radiation therapists

  • A dosimetrist

  • A medical physicist

Cancer treatment surgery

You may need surgery to remove cancer from your body. Our board-certified surgeons are dedicated to providing safe, high-quality surgery in a caring environment.

Clincial trials

Cancer research is an important component of our cancer program. Through our partnership with the UNC Cancer Network, we are one of only three medical centers currently performing cancer clinical trials in Western North Carolina.

Clinical trials are available for all stages of cancer and are designed to:

  • Test new ways to diagnose, treat and prevent cancer

  • Manage symptoms or side effects from treatment

Many cancer treatments used today are the result of past clinical trials, including the development of cures for childhood acute leukemia, Hodgkin’s disease and testicular cancer.

Our affiliation with UNC Health Care and UNC Cancer Network allows us to provide more than 50 clinical trials (on average) to our community. The Comprehensive Cancer Center at Pardee is a member of the Southeast Cancer Control Consortium, which links the hospital to research through the National Cancer Institute.
