Heels in Motion

Heels in Motion is a free community walking program that is open to the public and Pardee employees. Our program provides prizes, support and resources for increasing your physical activity.

Why walking?

Walking is a simple and easy way to start or maintain a physically active lifestyle. It is the most common form of physical activity for people across the country, and can be done year-round either indoors or outdoors.

Recently, the U.S. Surgeon General proclaimed a call to action to promote walking and walkable communities to make walking a national priority and improve the health of Americans.

We designed Heels in Motion in response to this call to action to increase the health of residents and employees in the Henderson County area.

Health benefits of walking

There are many health benefits associated with brisk walking. Walking can help you:

  • Reduce your risk of heart disease

  • Lower your risk of type 2 diabetes

  • Have positive mental health

  • Age healthfully

  • Lose weight

  • Maintain a healthy weight

  • Improve your muscular strength and fitness level

How often you should walk

To reap benefits from walking, Shape Up America! recommends that you do at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity activity per day, which is about the same as walking 10,000 steps when measured by a pedometer.

The more active you are, the more your health benefits will increase.

How does the Heels in Motion program work?

If you participate in Heels in Motion, we will ask you to record and submit your daily steps in a "Weekly Step Log." You may drop off your Weekly Step Log at the Signature Care Center or email it to signaturecare@pardeehospital.org.

You will also receive our weekly e-newsletter, which includes:

  • Walking tips

  • Encouragement

  • Reminders for steps submission

  • Information on upcoming Heels in Motion walking events

  • The latest leader board of top walkers in the program from the previous week

We offer the following yearly prizes for members who reach the following milestones:

  • 250,000 steps - water bottle

  • 500,000 steps - tote bag and t-shirt

  • 750,000 steps - umbrella

  • 1,000,000 steps - duffel bag

How do I sign up?

You can sign up by e-mailing a completed registration form to signaturecare@pardeehospital.org or by picking up a form at the Signature Care Center inside the Blue Ridge Mall.
