Lynn Matykiewicz, past president of Pardee Hospital Foundation was the winning bidder of the "Pit Pass Package" at the Foundation's Diamond Jubilee in June. Lynn graciously donated the winning package to the Boys & Girls Club. Kevin Lauritsen, Executive Director of the Club created an incentive for his young leaders with the Pit Passes as the reward. Dakota Morrow was the recipient of the incentive.
Dakota and his grandfather had a great time at Charlotte Speedway. They got to meet Kasey Kahne, Kyle Bush and several other drivers. Dakota's grandfather is a long-time arm-chair race fan who was amazed at how fast the cars were compared to the sense of speed when watching on TV.
"Dakota asked that you receive his biggest thanks for providing him with the passes. We at the Boys & Girls Club are equally grateful. "
Pardee Hospital Foundation's 2013 Women Helping Women campaign raised more than $140,000 to help patients who cannot afford vital health care treatments and screenings at Pardee Hospital.
More than 400 supporters attended the 2013 Women Helping Women Dinner or the 16th Annual Women Helping Women Luncheon on October 24th and 25th, at Kenmure Country Club in Flat Rock. Marcia Caserio was honored as the 2013 Woman of Hope. Her portrait will join the past award recipients, on display at the Elizabeth Reilly Breast Center. Incorporated into her picture are her words of encouragement, "We all pass through moments of uncertainty in life. Embrace the stillness. Give yourself the freedom to rely on others. Live in the light. And know that one day, it will be your turn to help."
Marcia has served as the President of both the Pardee Hospital Foundation and the Pardee Board of Directors, was Regional Director of the education outreach for Western Carolina University and developed a healthy aging educational program, the Great Life Series. In 1988, Marcia was a key creator of the first Women helping Women event. Marcia has been a part of the community for over 30 years. She and her husband are the parents of three children.
In the fall of 2011, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Having recuperated from surgery and other treatment, she continues her work in the community as Vice President and board member of Carolina Village, the newly formed Flat Rock Parks Foundation and as a lector at Immaculate Conception Church.
Henderson County's breast cancer rate was one of the state's highest in 1998 when Women Helping Women was founded by a group of compassionate and concerned women. Working hand-in- hand with Pardee Hospital Foundation, they started Women Helping Women to raise funds for women who couldn't afford to pay for breast cancer screenings and women's health treatments.
Today the program has grown to include financial assistance to patients who are uninsured or underinsured and need health care for breast and other women's cancers, heart disease, osteoporosis and other life-threatening illnesses. More than $1.8 million has been raised and nearly 1,000 patients have been helped. Henderson County now has one of the state's highest breast cancer survival rates. Since 1998, Women Helping Women campaigns have raised more than $1.6 million for equipment, facility renovations, screenings and health-care services for women. In 2012, Pardee Hospital Foundation's Women Helping Women campaign raised $135,000 to add to the on-going Women Helping Women fund for financial assistance for uninsured women for their healthcare needs at Pardee Hospital.
Nearly 1,000 women have received financial assistance from Women Helping Women funds since 1998.
