About The Center

The Center for Joint Replacement at Pardee uses a multidisciplinary, family-oriented approach to focus on each patient's individual needs and abilities. Since joint replacement patients are not “sick,” just recovering from surgery, we call our patients “Joint Campers” rather than “patients.”

Joint Campers are admitted at the beginning of the week to one of the 25 private rooms located in the Orthopaedics Unit on the ground floor of Pardee Hospital. Through group physical therapy, patients recover together during the week and are released by Friday or Saturday with a detailed plan for follow-up care.

The Joint Camp has a gymnasium for rehabilitation exercises, a dining room for patients and their families to enjoy meals together, a large waiting area and a beautiful courtyard outside. Following the day of surgery, there is a detailed schedule for each day of Joint Camp, which includes daily exercise classes, group therapy sessions, a special group celebration dinner and a complimentary hair day.

A dedicated team of orthopedic surgeons, nurses, therapists and patient care technicians work closely together to provide the best possible individualized care to each Joint Camper. Recovery from joint replacement is also a group effort, requiring the dedicated work of the “joint campers,” their surgeons, therapists and families.
