Sue Ballard
Breast Cancer Survivor & Pardee Employee

I’ve seen plenty of breast cancer patients over the last 20 years in my job as a mammographer at Pardee, but I never thought I would be one of them.

Sue Ballard is a mammographer at Pardee Hospital

In August 2002, I had my yearly mammogram at Pardee and was shocked to learn it was abnormal. I immediately became upset, but had to calm myself down because I was working that day and still had patients to see. Within a few days, I had a biopsy performed, which confirmed I had breast cancer. I chose to have a mastectomy at Pardee because I knew the group of surgeons here were excellent and I really trusted them.

Throughout my entire ordeal with cancer, I continued to work at Pardee so I could help others in my situation. After my experience, I can relate now to all of my patients who have breast cancer and can be there to offer words of encouragement and support. When my patients ask me for a recommendation on where to go for their treatment, I tell them to come to Pardee. There’s no need to go anywhere else when you have the best in cancer care available, right here close to home.
