Perspectives (Diabetes Education & Management Program)

"Diabetes may seem like a puzzle now,
but it's all in how you look at it."

Perspectives Diabetes Self-Management Education Program is an American Diabetes Association accredited program. Perspectives meets the national standards for diabetes self management education and offers group and individualized education and guidance. Several major insurance carriers cover a part of the cost.

Perspectives can help you make lifestyle changes that will make a difference in how you feel and help you to improve your overall health. Depending on your type and severity of diabetes, you may take insulin pills, shots, or both. Your Perspectives diabetes educators will help you understand how medications work together to lower blood sugar and counsel you on using medications safely. They will teach you about nutrition for diabetes so your blood sugar stays in better control. An important part of managing diabetes is keeping track of blood sugar levels. Perspectives educators teach you how to monitor your blood glucose and will explain how changes in your food choices, activity level, and medication can all work together to keep your blood sugar levels in a good target range for you.

Enrollment in the program is through provider referral, so speak with your doctor about joining Perspectives. Depending upon your needs and preferences, the length of the program may last from four to ten hours of counseling and instruction. Additional meetings and follow-up visits are available to suit your needs. Additionally, everyone is invited to attend the Henderson County Diabetes Support group twice a month for continuing diabetes education.
