Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather.  Your Hike to Health t-shirts are long-sleeve in case it's chilly and you need an extra layer!  If you were unable to sign up and still want to join us, registration will remain open throughout today.  If you do not have the chance to pre-register, you will be charged the regular admission fee for entry into Chimney Rock, and you can purchase a Hike to Health t-shirt for $10 if you would like.  Registered participants need not worry about paying an entry fee or a t-shirt cost.  If you have pre-registered, don't forget your ticket that has been mailed to you.  If your ticket does not arrive by Saturday, just tell the ticket booth your name and if you did in fact pre-register, you should be on the guest list for Pardee's Hike to Health. Dogs are welcome, but don't forget your leashes!  If you want to make lunch plans at Chimney Rock for after your hike, the Old Rock Cafe may be a great place to check out. Pardee speech therapist presents “Keeping Your Brain Young” seminar

Lucy Butler, a Pardee speech therapist, will present “Sharp as a Tack: Keeping Your Brain Young,” at the Pardee Health Education Center on Thu., Nov. 4, from 3 until 4:30 p.m.  It was once believed that as we aged, the brain’s networks became fixed. In the past two decades, however, an enormous amount of research has revealed that the brain never stops changing and adjusting.  Butler will discuss the concept of brain plasticity and how to use this method to help prevent cognitive decline.  Strategies to boost brain power will also be revealed.  Brain plasticity, or neuroplasticity, is the lifelong ability of the brain to reorganize neural pathways based on new experiences. As we learn, we acquire new knowledge and skills through instruction or experience. In order to learn or memorize a fact or skill, there must be persistent functional changes in the brain that represent the new knowledge.  Time for questions and answers will be included in the presentation.  Registration for this free presentation is required by calling 1-866-790-WELL (9355). -CJP
