Vision Henderson County visits Pardee

[caption id="attachment_368" align="alignleft" width="448" caption="Joel Tipton, CPR coordinator, gives the Vision Henderson County participants a tour of the Pardee Rehab & Wellness Center"][/caption] Thursday, March 11, the Vision Henderson County class of approximately 24 individuals stopped by to tour Pardee Urgent Care and the Pardee Rehab & Wellness Center as part of their class visits for the day. The group also visited Sheriff Rick Davis, the WNC Agricultural Center, Advantage West, Wilson Art and the Henderson County offices. Tours of the Pardee facilities were led by Tim Auwarter, director of Rehab and Wellness, Joel Tipton, CPR coordinator, and Diane Ballard, assistant manager of Pardee Urgent Care. Tim and Joel were both graduates of the Vision program. Vision Henderson County promotes informed and committed civic volunteerism. Its programs are designed to help participants acquire both a fuller sense of the wide array of critical issues affecting Henderson County, and the leadership skills necessary to motivate and engage others in collaborative efforts to resolve them.
While touring Pardee Urgent Care, the group was able to learn about excellent clinical services available at our Urgent Care facility including, adult and pediatric medical care, minor surgery, sports physicals, a physician on-site at all times, and convenient weekend and evening hours. Tim and Joel were able to inform the class of the benefits and services that Pardee Rehab & Wellness offers to the community. The Pardee Rehab team works together to create an individualized treatment program to maximize recovery from injury or illness, as well as exercise programs to increase and prolong good health. We are pleased to have been a stop on the schedule for the Vision Henderson County class for 2009-2010.

Russians tour Pardee

[caption id="attachment_364" align="alignleft" width="150" caption="Russian tour group visits Pardee's emergency dept."][/caption] [caption id="attachment_365" align="alignleft" width="150" caption="Pardee president/CEO presents to the Russian tour group"][/caption] Recently a delegation of Russians from Open World visited Pardee Hospital.  Open World is a federally funded program that has a mission to enhance understanding and capabilities for cooperation between the United States and the countries of Eurasia and the Baltic States by developing a network of leaders in the region who have gained significant, firsthand exposure to America's democratic, accountable government and its free-market system.  This particular group consisted of 10 physicians, two interpreters and two facilitators.  The facilitators are English speaking Russians whose job it is to facilitate the work of the delegates by acquainting them with American customs but not to translate.  This group visited due to their interest in healthcare and healthcare funding in the U.S.  In addition to Pardee Hospital, the group visited the Hendersonville Free Clinic and the Henderson County Health Department.  Representatives from Pardee provided them with a tour of the emergency department, intensive care unit and concluded with lunch and a lively discussion with Pardee president and CEO, Kris Hoce and CFO, Alan House. -CJP

Pardee’s Comprehensive Cancer Center receives Outstanding Achievement Award

The Comprehensive Cancer Center at Pardee has been honored with the Outstanding Achievement Award (OAA) from the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACoS). Established in 2004, the CoC Outstanding Achievement Award is designed to recognize cancer programs that strive for excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients.  A facility receives the OAA following an on-site evaluation by a physician surveyor during which the facility demonstrates a Commendation level of compliance with seven standards that represent the full scope of the cancer program and also receives a compliance rating for the remaining 29 standards. “We’re proud to be the only hospital in North Carolina and one of only 59 in the United States to receive the OAA award in 2009,” said Pardee CEO Kris Hoce. “Thanks to the dedication and hard work of our cancer program physicians and staff, residents in our community have access to the most advanced and comprehensive cancer screenings and treatments available.” The Comprehensive Cancer Center at Pardee offers a full range of advanced treatment and diagnostic services performed by highly qualified cancer specialists. Services include surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, advanced radiology and laboratory diagnostic support and clinical treatment trials. Community education programs, cancer screenings, support groups and holistic patient and family support are also available.
