Pardee congratulates Christy Parkhill on the recent completion of her Master's of Science in Nursing degree with a concentration in Leadership, with honors, from Eastern Carolina University.
Parkhill is active in numerous national and regional nursing societies, ranging from the American Nurses Association, North Carolina Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honors Society and the Golden Key Honor Society. Parkhill is board-certified in Medical/Surgical Nursing as well as Gerontology.
Parkhill is excited to apply the things she has learned, through her educational journey. She encourages others to take the time to go back for another degree, stating that if she can start a degree after age 40, anyone can.
Parkhill has served at Pardee since 1993 in various roles throughout the hospital. Assignments have ranged from Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Department, Radiology, Acute Medical Unit, Endoscopy, Discharge Planning and Nursing Coordinator.
Modern techniques for minimally invasive hip replacement
Pardee's Center for Orthopedics will present "Total Hip Replacement: Truth and Fiction" on Wednesday, Jan. 29, from 2 – 4 p.m. at the Pardee Signature Care Center, located in the Blue Ridge Mall. Edward G. Lilly III, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon from Blue Ridge Bone & Joint, will discuss modern techniques for a minimally invasive hip replacement.
This presentation is free and open to anyone who is interested in learning more about hip replacements. Registration is required by calling (828) 692-4600.
Pardee Hospital will be conducting prostate screenings at the Pardee Signature Care Center on Friday Jan. 24 from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 1-5 p.m.
According to the American Cancer Society, 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Recommended screening age begins at 50, unless there is a family history of prostate cancer.
The cost of the screening is $10 and consists of both a PSA blood test and exam.

Please join me in welcoming Denise Lucas to Pardee Hospital as Vice President of Clinical Services/Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). Denise joins us from Pennsylvania where she served as Vice President of Patient Services/CNO at Dubois Regional Medical Center for over 22 years. More recently, she has been working at Providence Hospitals/St. Augustine Sisters of Charity Health System in Columbia, SC serving in a leadership consulting capacity for their clinical departments. She holds a MSN from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and has her NEA-BC (Nursing Executive Advanced, Board Certified) certification through the American Nurse Credentialing Center.
Denise brings with her the experience and vision to inspire and lead our nursing and clinical services while developing strong, effective partnerships with physicians, staff and leaders. She will continue our focus on patient satisfaction and safety through building effective collaborations and creative measures to achieve the strategic goals set forth by the organization. Her energy and commitment will no doubt advance the quality of our patient care and contribute to the continuing success of Pardee Hospital.
Pardee Hospital would like to congratulate Nayeli and Jesus Pineda on the birth of Vittoria Nayeli. Vittoria was born at 8:59 a.m. on January 1, 2014, making her the first baby born in Henderson County during 2014. Vittoria was 6 lbs 14 oz, and is the fourth child of Nayeli and Jesus.
