Pardee Hospital Foundation Donors are Making Their Rounds

[caption id="attachment_271" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Generations of Excellence donors tour the operating room with Eileen Stepp."][/caption] On Monday, February 8, a group of Pardee Hospital Foundation donors took part in the first ever “Making Rounds” tour of the orthopedic unit and even experienced a trip to the operating room to view a live surgery. The donors were each members of the Foundation’s Generations of Excellence Society. The tour was created as a way for Pardee Hospital Foundation donors to get a look at what goes on behind the scenes at Pardee. This tour specifically focused on the orthopedic unit where the donors in attendance where able to see equipment that their previous donations had purchased as well as learn about the needs in the current orthopedic renovation. Dr. Amal K. Das, Jr. allowed the group into his operating room for a once-in-a-lifetime sneak peek at a joint replacement surgery. Howard Carl, Jr., a member of the Pardee Hospital Foundation Finance Committee, was particularly interested in this surgery as he had previously had a similar joint replacement surgery. “One of the most amazing things to me was learning how much money was needed for all of the equipment utilized during surgery,” Carl said after seeing all of the state-of-the-art equipment used during joint replacements. Generation's donor, Stan Massie, was fascinated while watching the live surgery, “I loved it, if I could have stayed for the entire surgery, I would have.” The tour was guided by Debbie Patrick, director of development for the Pardee Hospital Foundation and Eileen Stepp, nursing director of Surgical Services. Future Making Rounds tours are planned for dates throughout this year, if you would be interested in attending, contact the Pardee Hospital Foundation at (828) 696-4666.

Foundation Makes Plans for 2010

For 2010, we have some new ideas that will spark our donors’ and community interest in the programs and services at Pardee.   Our new “Making Rounds” program will bring donors in to see behind-the-scenes areas of interest--like a tour of renovations that are planned or in progress, an operating room to see specific surgical equipment, and meeting hospital administrators they may not otherwise have contact.  A reception thanking our physicians is long in the making to let them know we share their vision and investment in our patients.   A revised Donor Gala format, with entertainment, will bring some amusement into the usual round of community events.  One of our top initiatives in 2010 will be raising the funds for the Orthopedic Renovation that is underway.  You will often see us guiding tours of individuals through the hospital.  And, we will continue with luncheons that provide education and resources for our donors and community about Pardee, philanthropy and healthcare.  In total, we will raise $2.3 million in 2010. Check back for updates on this and other Foundation news!

Foundation Celebrates 12th Annual Women Helping Women Events

[gallery link="file" order="DESC"] Pardee Hospital Foundation's Women Helping Women Committee sponsored their 12th annual events on Oct. 15 and 16 at Kenmure County Club. The purpose of both events was to raise funds to provide financial assistance for uninsured women in Henderson County for screenings and treatment services at Pardee Hospital. Since 1998, the Pardee Foundation's Women Helping Women Committee has raised over $1.3 million for equipment, facilities, and services for women. In that time, the funds have helped over 850 women in need. In support of Pardee Hospital's strategic plan to expand their women's health services, Women Helping Women has extended its focus this year to include breast cancer as well as other women's cancers, heart disease, osteoporosis and other critical women's health needs. This year's featured speaker, Dr. Holly Atkinson, is the author of the best-selling book "Women and Fatigue" and a former medical correspondent for NBC's TODAY show and The CBS Morning News.  She is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Medicine at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine.  Her presentation was titled, The 5 Keys to Maximum Health... the ways to achieve maximum health in our busy lives. This year's events raised over $110,700. The generosity of 95 sponsors and numerous supporters helps us continue to help one woman at a time.
