Pardee Hospital Foundation will host its 16th Annual Women Helping Women events October 24 and 25 at Kenmure Country Club. Over 350 members of the community will attend this annual dinner and luncheon to celebrate cancer awareness, survivorship and to see first hand how their collaborative gifts touch so many lives.
This year’s keynote speaker, Shannon Miller – the most decorated Olympic gymnast in America turned health and wellness advocate, national speaker and author – will share her inspirational message of courage and grace at the Women Helping Women dinner and luncheon. After retiring from Olympic competition, Miller earned undergraduate degrees in marketing and entrepreneurship, and a law degree from Boston College. When she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in January 2011, Miller went into battle mode. Using her faith and lessons learned through gymnastics to set goals and keep a positive mental attitude, Miller is proud to be a cancer survivor.
“A diagnosis of cancer is a game changer. We find strength and courage that we never knew we had. Yes we will get knocked down…but we learn that we cannot give in or give up. We learn to fight back.” said Miller. Shannon Miller has earned seven Olympic and nine World Championship medals, and is the only female athlete to be inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame twice.
Pardee Hospital Foundation will also announce the 2013 Woman of Hope. The Woman of Hope award honors women in the community for sharing their stories of courage, determination and will as they faced cancer and other diseases. Past Women of Hope are on display at the Elizabeth Reilly Breast Center at Pardee.
Pardee Hospital Foundation’s Women Helping Women Committee plans to raise over $130,000 from the generosity of sponsors and attendees. The Pardee Hospital Auxiliary once again made the lead gift with a generous contribution of $12,500. Diamond sponsors include Hendersonville Surgical Associates and Eleanora W. Meloun with generous contributions of $6,000 each. Gold sponsors include Carolina Village, Mountain Radiology and Oncology, Hendersonville Times-News and UBS Financial Services with generous contribution of $3,000 each.
Funds that are raised from Women Helping Women provide financial assistance for uninsured and under-insured women for their health care needs at Pardee. Specifically, these needs address diagnostic screenings and procedures for cancer, heart disease, osteoporosis and other critical women’s health needs.
