Pardee Receives Healthgrades 2014 Women’s Health Excellence Award

Pardee Hospital has achieved the Healthgrades 2014 Women's Health Excellence Award™ according to Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. This recognition distinguishes Pardee Hospital as a top performing hospital in women's health. Pardee is one of only 178 hospitals recognized nationally for their outcomes for care provided to women for common conditions and procedures treated in the hospital.

"I am passionate about Women's Health. I feel fortunate to work at Pardee Hospital where quality care for patients is the top priority. Pardee has a remarkable team of health care providers who are both knowledgeable and compassionate. I feel honored to be a part of Pardee's team. This award is an affirmation of the truth that I see every day. Our hometown hospital is an exceptional place both to give care and to get care," Maridee Spearman, M.D., Pardee Center for Women's Health.

"Women tend to fare worse than men in the treatment of significant medical conditions like cardiovascular disease, so it is important for women to understand their risks and select a hospital accordingly," said Evan Marks, Executive Vice President, Healthgrades. "The Healthgrades 2014 Women's Health Excellence Award recipients have demonstrated exceptional performance and a dedicated approach to delivering superior quality care for women."

Healthgrades 2014 Women's Health Excellence Award recipient hospitals have the potential to save women's lives. Compared to hospitals that performed in the bottom 10 percent from 2010 through 2012, Healthgrades Women's Health Excellence Award recipients as a group had a 55 percent lower mortality rate across eight conditions and procedures and a 21 percent lower complication rate across seven conditions and procedures. If all hospitals nationwide performed at the level of the Healthgrades Women's Health Excellence Award hospitals:

22,737 women's lives could have potentially been saved 30,577 women could have potentially avoided in-hospital complications

Pardee Hospital Receives Top “A” Grade in Leapfrog’s Hospital Safety Score Third Consecutive Time

Pardee Hospital has received a top grade for its commitment to protecting patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections. The Leapfrog Group awarded Pardee an "A" in its spring 2014 Hospital Safety Score.

"Receiving this award three consecutive times reinforces the importance of safety here at Pardee. I am proud to serve alongside these fine individuals, who remain committed to providing the very best care to our patients," said Jay Kirby, President and CEO, Pardee Hospital.

The Leapfrog Group is an independent industry watchdog and its hospital safety rating is the only one to be peer-reviewed in the Journal of Patient Safety. The Leapfrog scores are free to the public and designed to give consumers information they can use to protect themselves and their families when facing a hospital stay.

"Safety should come first for our families when we pick a hospital, because errors and infections are common and deadly," said Leapfrog CEO Leah Binder. "No hospital is perfect, but we congratulate the co-workers of Pardee for achieving an "A" and showing us that Pardee makes the well-being of patients a top priority."

Calculated under the guidance of Leapfrog's Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single "A," "B," "C," "D," or "F" score representing a hospital's overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm. More than 2,500 U.S. general hospitals were assigned scores in spring 2014, with about 32 percent receiving an "A" grade. The Hospital Safety Score is fully transparent, and its website offers a full analysis of the data and methodology used in determining grades.

To see how Pardee's score compares locally and nationally, and to access safety tips for patients and their loved ones, visit the Hospital Safety Score website at www.hospitalsafetyscore.org. Consumers can also download a free Hospital Safety Score app.

The Hospital Safety Score is an initiative of The Leapfrog Group (www.leapfroggroup.org), a national nonprofit organization using the collective leverage of large purchasers of health care to initiate breakthrough improvements in the safety, quality and affordability of health care for Americans. The flagship Leapfrog Hospital Survey allows purchasers to structure their contracts and purchasing to reward the highest performing hospitals. The Leapfrog Group was founded in November 2000 with support from the Business Roundtable and national funders and is now independently operated with support from its purchaser and other members.
