Board-certification of nurses plays an increasingly important role in the assurance of high standards of care for patients and their loved ones. A registered nurse (RN) license provides entry to general nursing practice. However, the knowledge-intensive requirements of modern nursing require extensive education, as well as a strong personal commitment to excellence by the nurse.
Pardee Hospital encourages national board-certification for nurses. There are many nursing certification specialties such as medical-surgical, pediatric, perioperative, gerontology, oncology, research, obstetrics, case management, emergency nursing, critical care and many others.
Please join Pardee Hospital and the nation's national nursing certification organizations in honoring those hardworking, dedicated nurses for their professionalism and a job well done.
Lynde Mickey, MSN, and Christy Parkhill, BSN, recently served as Nurse of the Day at the North Carolina General Assembly.
As Nurse of the Day, Lynde and Christy were on site for medical assistance that may be needed for legislators and staff. They were also introduced on the floor for legislators to acknowledge them for their service and were invited to watch the remainder of the assembly.
Alesha Simuel, RN, C-EFM, has received national certification in Electronic Fetal Monitoring from the National Certification Corporation.
This certification was achieved by Simuel for her expertise in electronic fetal monitoring, equipment, physiology, pattern management, legal aspects and adjunct fetal assessment. Simuel is one of 18 nationally certified nurses at Pardee Women & Children's Center.
Incorporated in 1975, the National Certification Corporation (NCC) is a not-for-profit organization that provides a national credentialing for nurses, physicians and other licensed health care personnel. The NCC grants certification to nurses in the obstetric, gynecologic and neonatal nursing specialties, and subspecialty certificates of added qualification are awarded to licensed health care professionals.

Pardee Center for Women's Health has received ultrasound practice accreditation in the area of OB/GYN by the American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine (AIUM).
Pardee Center for Women's Health achieved this recognition by meeting rigorous voluntary guidelines set by the diagnostic ultrasound profession. All facets of the practice were assessed; including the training and qualifications of physicians and sonographers, ultrasound equipment maintenance, documentation, storage and record-keeping practices, policies and procedures to protect patients, and staff and quality assurance methods.
The AIUM is a multidisciplinary medical association of more than 9,000 physicians, sonographers, scientists, students and other health care providers. Established more than 50 years ago, the AIUM is dedicated to advancing the safe and effective use of ultrasound in medicine through professional and public education, research, development of guidelines and accreditation.
