Pardee Hospital designated as the only Stroke Capable Hospital in Henderson County

Pardee Hospital has been designated as the first and only Stroke Capable Hospital in Henderson County by the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services. Early stroke treatment may decrease the amount of permanent damage to brain cells, decreasing the amount of disability. This special designation is only granted to hospitals that meet specific, enhanced care capability requirements related to the effective treatment of stroke patients 24 hours a day. “All of us at Pardee Hospital are pleased to receive Emergency Medical Services recognition as Henderson County's only Stroke Capable Hospital. This designation is reserved for hospitals that have committed the resources and demonstrate a willingness to aggressively treat victims of acute stroke. The critical factor in preventing death or severe disability for stroke victims is the time it takes from when the first symptoms are recognized, until the patient is diagnosed and treated. This designation as a Stroke Capable Hospital means that patients with symptoms of an acute stroke that require emergency medical intervention, can be brought to Pardee Hospital and will not have to be transported by paramedics out of this county. During my career as an emergency physician, I have personally treated and seen the disability sparing results of rapid, aggressive stroke management. Organizations that make this commitment save lives and change lives in their community,” said Robert Kiskaddon, M.D., Chief Medical Officer at Pardee Hospital.

Pardee Hospital in partnership with Shred-it to offer free paper shredding and recycling event

In celebration of Earth Day, Pardee Hospital will partner with Shred-it to offer a free paper shredding and recycling event for the community on April 20, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Justice Street parking lot. “Pardee’s coordinated green initiatives has been a team effort here at the hospital. We’re proud that, along with Shred-It, we can offer this service free to our community leading up to Earth Day. If we can help make the environment that we all share healthier, we can also have a healthier community,” said Richard Prudhomme Director of Marketing and Communications. Shred-it will provide two trucks and Shred-it representatives will help with handling documents from the public. Suggested materials include human resources reports, accounting and information technology documents, sales and marketing information, research and development plans, executive level information, and any personal information that needs to be securely destroyed. After your sensitive material is collected, shredded and baled, all shredded materials are then recycled. All recycled paper contributes directly to the production of a wide assortment of paper products such as paper towels and paper plates. For every two security consoles filled with paper, one tree is saved through the recycling process.
