Pardee Hospital Announces Collaboration with Municipal and Community Groups to Build a New Educational Facility

Pardee Hospital today took part in a joint announcement of a five-way partnership with the City of Hendersonville, Henderson County, Blue Ridge Community College (BRCC) and Wingate University to build an educational facility on the Pardee campus. The 60,000-square-foot facility, expected to be completed by December 1, 2015, is aimed toward the betterment of Henderson County and will improve educational opportunities and medical care for County residents by strengthening ties between the hospital, higher education institutions and municipal groups.

"The partnership wouldn't have been possible without the support and leadership of City and County officials and we are thrilled to partner with BRCC and Wingate University as the education programs to be offered are key to the expansion of Henderson County's future workforce," said Jay Kirby, president and CEO of Pardee Hospital. "This initiative is good for the overall economic growth of our region. Program offerings through both BRCC and Wingate University will provide certificate and degree programs to expand the future healthcare workforce in our region."

Specifically, the facility will offer BRCC allied health education programs and coursework including nursing, surgical technology, nursing assistant, and phlebotomy and Wingate University will initially offer courses toward its physician assistant, pharmacy, and MBA programs. Over 400 students, faculty, and staff will be based in the facility.

This partnership reflects Pardee's longstanding relationship with BRCC. The high quality students who BRCC graduates exemplify its commitment to excellence and ensure high quality care for the community for years to come. As western North Carolina continues to grow, this facility ensures there is a well-trained workforce to care for its citizens.

Additionally, approximately 25,000 square feet of space are designated for Pardee to provide health care services. This will increase access to care to world-class physicians in downtown Hendersonville and provide space for future growth of services.

Pardee Hospital also partners with the YMCA, Blue Ridge Community Health Services, MAHEC and others on other important programs and services for the community.

"Strong community partnerships are integral to our community," noted William L. Moyer, Chair of Pardee's Board of Directors. "We believe this endeavor will spur our community's growth and will position us as a leader in transforming healthcare regionally." He continued "I would like to commend Commissioners Thompson and Edney for their leadership on both Boards in helping make this a reality."

Pardee has received multiple national quality awards and was recently named one of the safest hospitals in the U.S. This is a reflection of its continued collaboration with its medical staff, team members, Blue Ridge Community College, Wingate University, and community.
