On Friday last week, the Times-News
covered a great story about a very important initiative to end Shaken Baby Syndrome
Pardee Hospital is raising awareness of the Period of Purple Crying this month. Pardee Auxiliary members and community knitters and crocheters have knitted more than 45 purple-colored baby caps to be distributed during the month.
"There were times I was on the brink of insanity," Stepp said. "Sometimes, our expectations of a newborn are unrealistic. Your baby will cry, and that is normal."
This time of their life is called the "Period of Purple Crying,"
coined by the National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome. To help parents understand and get through the stage, the center decided to lead a national awareness effort, providing resources such as DVDs and literature to medical facilities and parents.
