A message to the Pardee Radiology Team

This is a letter that we received from a patient's family member this week. Great job to the whole team in Radiology!

Dear Pardee Hospital Radiology Department,

I am the daughter of a patient that received the highest quality of care from your staff. I first spoke with someone in person to express my gratitude for the quality of care that my mother acquired. What I wasn't expecting was to be overcome by my emotions of the reality of my sick loved one, and I did not get to say everything that was needed to be said.

My family entered the emergency department fearful for what really could be happening with my mother, only to be sent home with unanswered questions. The next day she was admitted and through all of the pain she was enduring, my parents could not stop raving about how wonderful the radiology staff was. She had a test/procedure in almost every modality in radiology. Although she did not remember all names, Chuck in Nuclear Medicine was the name that stuck out the most. We apologize that we could not remember all names, but I heard wonderful comments about every modality!

I am also writing this letter today, because as a fellow radiology professional from a neighboring hospital, I know that the radiology department does not get a lot of glory when it comes to the inpatients. This time is different. The other staff that she received care from was great, but your department was exceptional. In closing, I cannot express enough how I appreciate that your "work family" took care of my family, so from the bottom of my heart thank you so much.

Sincerely,

Kayla & Family

Pardee Women and Children’s Center receives Golden Bow Award from North Carolina Breastfeeding Coalition

The North Carolina Breastfeeding Coalition (NCBC), has presented Pardee’s Women and Children’s Center with the Golden Bow Award for their efforts and sustained commitment to providing breastfeeding-friendly maternity care.

The Golden Bow Award is awarded to birthing centers who have committed to stop distributing infant formula companies’ bags and related materials. The marketing of commercial formula in health care settings decreases the rates of breastfeeding initiation, duration and exclusivity. Golden Bow Award recipients recognize the negative effect this marketing can have on the health of North Carolina’s mothers and babies.

NCBC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that brings together health care providers, agencies, organizations, individuals, families and other breastfeeding advocates to support, protect and promote breastfeeding in the state of North Carolina. Founded in 2005, the NCBC provides a framework for the development and execution of programs to advance breastfeeding support throughout North Carolina.

A patient’s experience

On September 13th, this note appeared in the Times-News and on www.blueridgenow.com

To the editor:

On Sunday, I had a mind-changing experience that I would like to share with our community. Prior to Sunday, I had a poor mindset concerning Pardee Hospital based on a bad experience my wife had some years ago concerning a broken hip.

My opinion changed on Sunday when I entered the ER at Pardee due to a high fever. The moment that I walked in the door, I was treated in a kind, efficient, respectful and completely professional manner by all who assisted me.

First there were the nice ladies who checked me in, took my statistics and insurance info (I, sadly, did not get their names). Next were nurses Tony, Norm and X-ray Tech Mike. Last but not least was Dr. Douglas. All terrific.

Nice going Pardee. You are certainly living up to the words of your recent ads. I feel that we are lucky to have such a fine hospital in our relatively small town.

Pardee Hospital receives quality based reaccreditation from DNV Healthcare

Pardee Hospital has achieved national reaccreditation from DNV Healthcare and will continue to be a Medicare-approved hospital program that integrates the ISO 9001 quality management system with the Medicare hospital standards. “We are pleased to announce that pursuant to the authority granted to Det Norske Veritas (DNV) Healthcare, Inc. by the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, that Margaret R. Pardee Memorial Hospital is deemed in compliance with the Medicare Conditions of Participation for Hospitals and is awarded full accreditation for three (3) years effective April 23, 2012,” said Beth Long, Compliance Officer of Pardee Hospital. DNV hospital accreditation addresses the demands of quality-driven hospitals that are dedicated to patient-centered care. As part of the accreditation process, DNV surveyors track the care of patients across various departments and facilities of Pardee Hospital. This accreditation allows Pardee to receive reimbursement for its patients covered by Medicare and Medicaid. The DNV accreditation program was authorized by the US Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in 2008 and is the only program that integrates the ISO quality management system with Medicare’s Conditions of Participation, the core requirements for hospitals set forth by the federal government. Pardee Hospital became compliant with the ISO 9001:2008 standards in order to maintain its accreditation with DNV earlier this year. DNV Healthcare Inc. is based in Cincinnati, Ohio, and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Det Norske Veritas, a global independent foundation dedicated to safeguarding life, property and the environment. "We want to express our sincere appreciation"::Orthopedics

We received the message below from a patient and her husband expressing their sincere thanks to Pardee Hospital, Dr. Brooks and our amazing orthopedic team.   It's always great to hear about such a wonderful experience. "We want to express our sincere appreciation for the care, diligence, and professionalism exhibited by the entire staff of the Orthopedic Unit at Pardee. Dr. Brooks replaced Patsy’s left knee on February 7, 2011 and her right knee last year, March 1, 2010.  Both of these experiences were positive. When one is surrounded by a caring group, a wonderful doctor and the rehabilitation staff, healing is much faster and pleasant. The Pardee organization is first class and we appreciate the comfort that it provided." Sincerely, Patsy and Charlie
