Thank you to all who came out to Hike to Health

Pardee Hospital hosted our second Hike to Health, on Saturday, Oct. 23 at Chimney Rock.  Hikers of all ages (including some furry friends!) came out to enjoy the crisp fall weather and beautiful scenery along the trails at Chimney Rock.  We couldn't have asked for a better day for hiking, or a greater turnout for the event.  Participants received a long sleeve Hike to Health T-shirt, giveaways, healthy refreshments and free admission into Chimney Rock.  Stay tuned next spring for details about upcoming hospital community outdoor events.  Pardee Hospital promotes healthy and active lifestyles.  We hope to see you at our next Hike to Health. Only 2 days until we go hiking

Hike to Health is only 2 days away!  We have had a great amount of people sign up already and look forward to seeing everyone this Saturday at Chimney Rock.  The hike begins at 9 a.m.  Registration will open around 8:30 a.m. for hikers to receive their t-shirts and other fun giveaways we have planned.  Chimney Rock and Pardee staff will be on site to help assist in parking and registration logistics.  Aquafina has provided us with bottled water for the day and the Hendersonville Community Co-Op has donated several boxes of organic snacks for a quick bite before you hike. Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather.  Your Hike to Health t-shirts are long-sleeve in case it's chilly and you need an extra layer!  If you were unable to sign up and still want to join us, registration will remain open throughout today.  If you do not have the chance to pre-register, you will be charged the regular admission fee for entry into Chimney Rock, and you can purchase a Hike to Health t-shirt for $10 if you would like.  Registered participants need not worry about paying an entry fee or a t-shirt cost.  If you have pre-registered, don't forget your ticket that has been mailed to you.  If your ticket does not arrive by Saturday, just tell the ticket booth your name and if you did in fact pre-register, you should be on the guest list for Pardee's Hike to Health. Dogs are welcome, but don't forget your leashes!  If you want to make lunch plans at Chimney Rock for after your hike, the Old Rock Cafe may be a great place to check out. Hike to Health - This weekend

I hope you have your hiking boots ready for this weekend's Hike to Health!  I pulled my fleece out of the back of closet this weekend, and I've got my outfit all picked out.  If you haven't signed up, there is still time.  Registration will remain open until Thursday, Oct. 21.  Call 1-866-790-WELL to register.  Once you register, your tickets for admission into Chimney Rock will be mailed to you.  The fee is $15 per hiker, children 10 and under are free.  We ordered extra T-shirts so if you were unable to sign up last week, there is a chance you can still get a T-shirt when you arrive for the hike.  We will have other giveaways and snacks available as well. We look forward to seeing everyone at Hike to Health on Saturday, Oct. 23.  The hike begins at 9 a.m.  Don't forget to bring your tickets for admission into Chimney Rock - this is your ticket into the hike as well.  If you do not register in advance, you will have to pay the regular price of admission into Chimney Rock.  Hike to Health T-shirts will be for sale at the event for those who did not pre-register. Girls on the Run

Kym Schifino, PT, at the Pardee Rehab and Wellness Center recently began volunteering her time as an assistant coach for the Hendersonville Girls on the Run running group.  Girls on the Run is offered to girls in third through fifth grade throughout Western N.C. Schifino is making her coaching debut working with girls from Hendersonville Elementary School, two times per week.  The running organization is a 12-week, 24-lesson program combining training for a 5K (3.1 miles) running event with self-esteem enhancing and uplifting team exercise activities.  The mission of Girls on the Run is to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. “The mission of the program really resonated with me when I first heard about it; a passion for running and fitness (encouraged by my dad) kept me focused and out of trouble growing up,” said Schifino.  “Running continues to be an outlet for stress relief and a fun way to maintain a healthy lifestyle.  I’m excited to help young girls discover that for themselves.” For more information about Girls on the Run, visit www.gotrwnc.org or call (828) 713-4290.
