Pardee physical therapist to present shoulder pain seminar

Jason Morgan, a licensed physical therapist at Pardee Hospital, will host a presentation about shoulder pain on Thur., Aug. 12 from 3 until 4:30 p.m. at the Pardee Health Education Center.  Registration is required for this free presentation by calling 1-866-790-WELL (9355). Shoulder pain is a common problem that can interfere with daily activities, and it is important to understand the cause of the pain in order to apply the appropriate treatment. This free presentation will focus on causes of shoulder pain and the range of treatments available from medication and therapy to stretching exercises. The Pardee Health Education Center located in the Blue Ridge Mall is a unique community outreach program of the hospital that provides an array of services from health fairs and screenings to seminars and support groups. Last year, the center provided more than 10,000 free and low-cost screenings to community members.

Pardee Rehab and Wellness Center offering a new class

Pardee is offering a new class, “Seniors in Motion.” The new class is located at the Pardee Rehab and Wellness Center, 212-B Thompson Street near Epic Theaters.  Classes will take place each Wednesday and Friday from 10 until 10:30 a.m.  The class is free to wellness members and Pardee associates, and costs $3 for the community. This class is designed to help promote range of motion, breathing, stretching and moving the entire body with the aid of motivating music.  Participants are required to stand independently and tolerate light to moderate cardiac exercise. Hike to Health

[gallery link="file"] Thank you to all of our participants, volunteers, and sponsors for making Hike to Health a huge success with an excellent turnout of over 100 hikers. This past Saturday, Pardee hosted Hike to Health at DuPont State Forest. The community wellness event was very well received and participants were able to enjoy wonderful weather and a fun morning exercise. Participants hiked a total of three miles from Guion Farms to Wintergreen Falls. Adults, kids, and family pets came out to enjoy the great outdoors and hike to the beautiful Wintergreen Falls. Thank you to everyone who joined us on Saturday! We hope to see you again next year. "The Diabetic Chef" Coming to Pardee

[gallery link="file" order="DESC" columns="2"] Chef Chris Smith, author of  the Diabetic Chef’s Year Round Cookbook along with Cooking with The Diabetic Chef, both 1ed by the American Diabetes Association, will be coming to the Pardee Health Education Center for a cooking demo on Friday, June 4 from 2 until 4 p.m. Chris has over 20 years experience in the culinary field. Focusing on healthy cuisine, Chris is an authority on diabetic nutrition and food preparation.  He has been featured in USA Today, CNN, Web MD, and Southern Living magazines.  National television appearances include DLIFE and Taking Control of Your Diabetes. Currently, Chris is working as a researcher with Wake Forest University, in the development of lifestyle skills and applications. “Cooking with Chef Chris” public radio program is currently in production.  He is the Chef for Team Type I as they compete in the 2010 RAAM  Race or “Race across America.” Chris also rides and is currently training for the JDRF “Ride to Cure Diabetes” in Death Valley, CA held this fall. Chris Smith is a nationally recognized author, public speaker and spokesperson for all people affected with diabetes.  He travels the country speaking on the benefits of healthy eating not only for people affected with diabetes, but for anyone who would like to eat and live a healthy lifestyle.
