Home : Patient & Visitor Info : Safety and Security
For your protection, the hospital conducts fire and disaster drills regularly. If a drill occurs while you are here, please remain in your room and do not become alarmed. The hospital is a fire-resistant building. The staff is trained to respond in emergencies. Visitors/staff may not use elevators during drills. Your staff will instruct and assist in the event of a real emergency.
Special rules are in effect in areas where patients are receiving oxygen. Electrically operated equipment and aerosol products are not permitted in these areas. No smoking is permitted in any area where oxygen is in use or stored.
The hospital discourages the use of personal electrical appliances such as curling irons, radios or hair dryers brought from home. All appliances brought from home must be examined and approved for use by the Engineering Department before putting them to use.
Patients are asked not to bring items of value to the hospital. Small items of value such as jewelry or wallets should be deposited in the safe in the Business Office. Written receipts are given in return for all items. The hospital does not accept responsibility for items of value unless they are deposited in the safe. When not in use, dentures, eyeglasses and hearing aids should be stored in the bedside table. Do not wrap them in tissue or towels or place them on meal trays. A container will be provided for storing dentures. The hospital cannot be responsible for the loss or breakage of such items. If you lose something, please notify your nurse immediately and every effort will be made to help you find it. Unclaimed articles are turned in to Lost and Found, where they are kept for 30 days. To inquire about a lost item, or to place an item into lost and found, please dial 1151.
At Pardee Hospital, we are extremely careful to protect our patients from hospital acquired infections. Standard Precautions are rules that we follow to reduce the spread of infection. These rules require us to treat every patient as though they had an infectious disease. Each room is stocked with gloves and all staff members are required to practice good hand washing techniques. Please help us by washing your hands before and after you eat, after you use the bathroom, and anytime your hands become soiled. Ask your nurse for more information about the importance of good hand washing.
