Gov. Stein Appoints UNC Health Pardee Chief Medical Officer Dr. Greg McCarty to North Carolina Medical Board
UNC Health Pardee Chief Medical Officer, Greg McCarty, M.D., has been appointed by Gov. Josh Stein to serve on the North Carolina Medical Board, the state agency responsible for licensing, regulating, and supporting medical professionals.
In this role, Dr. McCarty will help oversee the licensing and regulation of physicians, physician assistants, and other medical professionals across the state. He will also contribute to the development of policies that promote safe, effective, and ethical medical practice. His three-year term on the board will begin Nov. 1, 2025.

The North Carolina Medical Board plays a critical role in maintaining the public’s trust in the medical profession. The Board is responsible for licensing, monitoring, disciplining, and guiding physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs) to ensure their fitness and competence to practice medicine. It is composed of 13 members, including physicians, APPs, and non-clinician representatives of the public, reflecting a broad spectrum of perspectives on health care and professional accountability.
UNC Health Pardee is a not-for-profit community healthcare organization and is managed by UNC Health. The hospital, founded in 1953, is licensed for 222 acute care beds.
