Pardee NeuroSpine Associates Opens New Practice in Brevard, Welcomes Two Neurosurgeons


Matthew Brown, MD, FAANS, FCNSUNC Health Pardee is pleased to announce the opening of Pardee NeuroSpine Associates, a new specialized practice dedicated to diagnosing and treating conditions affecting the spinal cord and peripheral nerves. The Brevard practice is opening on July 14, and the Asheville location will follow in August. It will be staffed by board-certified neurosurgeons Matthew Brown, MD, and Kelsey Walsh, MD, and certified physician assistant David McKee, PA-C. The addition of Pardee NeuroSpine Associates enhances UNC Health Pardee’s ability to provide patients access to state-of-the-art diagnostics, innovative surgical techniques, and a compassionate, multidisciplinary care team.

Pardee NeuroSpine Associates provides expert care for a wide range of complex conditions affecting the spine, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves, including spinal stenosis, sciatica, back and neck pain, degenerative disc disease, cervical spine disorders, and other spinal and nerve-related issues. The practice is focused on delivering personalized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s unique needs. The team believes in evaluating all appropriate nonsurgical options before considering surgery, ensuring that patients receive the most effective and least invasive care possible.

When surgery is needed, Pardee NeuroSpine Associates offers advanced surgical procedures such as disc replacement, anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF), Sacroiliac (SI) joint fusion, spinal fusion, peripheral nerve surgery, revision spinal surgery, spinal decompression/laminectomy and more, in addition to minimally invasive, robotic spinal surgery. 

Kelsey Walsh, MD
Dr. Brown is a board-certified and fellowship-trained neurosurgeon who takes a conservative approach to surgery, recommending the least invasive surgical option that addresses the patient's needs and utilizing nonsurgical approaches when possible. He graduated from Wake Forest University School of Medicine and completed his internship and residency at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Dr. Brown also completed extensive spine fellowship training at The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Southmead Hospital in Bristol, UK.


Dr. Walsh is a board-certified neurosurgeon with extensive training in minimally invasive, robotic spinal surgery and is the only female neurosurgeon in the western North Carolina region. She is a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina and completed her neurosurgery internship and residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS.

David McKee is a certified physician assistant experienced in treating patients with musculoskeletal and neurological conditions and assisting with orthopedic spine surgeries. A former Marine, David received his Master of Medical Science in physician assistant studies at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.David McKee
