UNC Health Pardee Expands Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Team with New Physician and Advanced Practice Providers

UNC Health Pardee continues to expand orthopedic and sports medicine services across Western North Carolina with the addition of four new providers to Pardee Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, a department of Pardee Hospital.

J.D. Hales, III, MD, CAQSM, a board-certified and fellowship-trained non-operative sports medicine physician, joins the team in at 57 Howard Gap Road in Fletcher and 316 Chestnut St. in Brevard. Dr. Hales specializes in non-operative orthopedic conditions and sports-related injuries, with clinical interests including minimally invasive ultrasound-guided procedures, regenerative injections such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP), osteoarthritis treatment, and sports injury management. He earned his medical degree from Florida State University College of Medicine and completed both his residency in family medicine and fellowship in primary care sports medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Also joining Pardee Orthopedics and Sports Medicine are advanced practice providers Mark Claar, PA-C; Emily Hamilton, FNP-BC; and Danielle Sander, PA-C, who will support orthopedic and sports medicine patients through comprehensive orthopedic evaluations, surgical coordination, and post-surgical care.

Mark Claar, PA-C, is a board-certified physician assistant specializing in comprehensive orthopedic evaluations and support for orthopedic and sports medicine patients, particularly following total joint replacement procedures. He earned his physician assistant degree from East Carolina University. Mark is seeing patients in Brevard and at 212 Thompson St. in Hendersonville.

Emily Hamilton, FNP-BC, is a board-certified family nurse practitioner focused on orthopedics, sports medicine, and neurospine care. She provides hospital inpatient surgical support and post-surgical care and previously served patients in Pardee’s Emergency Department. Hamilton earned her nursing degrees from the University of South Carolina Upstate and East Tennessee State University.

Danielle Sander, PA-C, is a board-certified physician assistant specializing in hospital inpatient orthopedic and sports medicine surgery, with experience in the evaluation and management of acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions. She earned her physician assistant degree from Florida State University after completing undergraduate studies at Auburn University.
