UNC Health Pardee has named Olivia Davidson, a phlebotomist in the laboratory department, as its Teammate of the Month. In her role, Davidson collects blood specimens from patients throughout the hospital and assists in processing samples in the lab, helping ensure timely and accurate diagnostic testing.
Davidson joined UNC Health Pardee in 2024 and says she chose to work at the hospital because of its deep roots in the community. “I have family members who have worked here for years and love it,” she said. “Pardee is a wonderful place to work, and we as employees are what make it that way.”
Nominators describe Davidson as kind, compassionate, and collaborative. During a recent medical emergency in the Intensive Care Unit, while clinicians worked to save a patient’s life, Davidson knelt beside the patient’s wife and remained a steady, supportive presence throughout the experience. After completing required lab draws across the hospital, she returned to provide comfort to the patient’s wife and children alongside the chaplain.
“In a moment when so many teammates were focused on providing medical care, Olivia provided human-to-human care,” one nominator shared. In the minutes and hours that followed, nurses, physicians, and the chaplain expressed the need to recognize her compassion and support during such a difficult time.
Davidson says her favorite part of her job is interacting with patients and coworkers. “I love being able to comfort patients, especially when it’s been hard to collect their blood,” she said. “Caring, compassion, and understanding should always be in our minds and hearts when taking care of our patients and our community.”
The Teammate of the Month award is given to a Pardee employee who positively contributes to achieving the organization’s mission, vision, and goals. This person is selected by a committee of their peers and recognized for going above and beyond their regular duties to support patients, customers, peers, the organization, and its community. The Teammate of the Month award showcases the many different roles of keeping a health system, like Pardee, operating and delivering patient-centered, quality care.
