A mammogram is a low dose X-ray image of the breast used by doctors to look for signs of breast disease.  They are used as an effective screening tool to detect early breast cancer in those experiencing no symptoms.

Our mammogram services are accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) as part of our designation as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence. This means that you will work with medical professionals who are specially trained to perform and interpret your mammogram using the latest breast imaging technology. All of our mammograms are performed using the latest digital breast imaging equipment.

Don’t Delay

There are a number of reasons people put off a mammogram screening -- you have a busy schedule, the exam could be painful, or you don’t think you’re at risk for breast cancer. However, getting an annual mammogram at the right time can save your life. The mammogram is currently the best screening tool for breast cancer and early detection. And with new technology, mammograms are more comfortable and accurate than ever.

Technology at Pardee

3D Mammography

Pardee uses 3D mammography, which is the only equipment that is FDA approved as superior to 2D mammography.

Multiple clinical studies show 3D mammography is beneficial for all women, no matter your breast type or density. The 3D mammography detects 41% more invasive breast cancers and reduces false positives by up to 40%. For the patient, this means more accuracy and less anxiety.Pardee recently installed a second 3D mammogram screening room, providing the ability to see more patients with significantly less wait time for patients wanting to schedule an exam.

Smart Curve System

In order to deliver a more comfortable mammogram experience, Pardee has now added the new SmartCurve System.

In addition to the 3D technology now firmly in place and upheld as the standard of care for breast health, Pardee recently added a few new improvements to its suite of diagnostic tools to make the exam more comfortable and accurate.

The SmartCurve System provides curved paddles specifically designed for more comfortable compression during breast imaging. It is clinically proven to deliver a more comfortable mammogram without compromising image quality, workflow or dose. The technology has the potential to increase screening volume and compliance for the countless women who have reported avoiding mammograms due in large part to the fear of discomfort associated with breast compression.

Mammogram: What to Expect

When you come to Pardee Outpatient Radiology for a mammogram, wear a shirt that can be easily removed. Do not use deodorant, talcum powder or lotion on your underarms or breasts. If you have had a mammogram at a different facility, obtain and bring your past x-rays with you. If you cannot bring them with you, provide the name and address of the facility where the mammogram was taken.

Mammograms are quick and noninvasive. During the exam, you will stand in front of a special x-ray machine. A technologist will place your breast on a plastic plate and another plate will firmly press your breast from above. The plates will flatten the breast, holding it still while the x-ray is being taken. You will feel some pressure. Good compression is essential for correct evaluation of your breasts. The other breast will be x-rayed in the same way. The steps are then repeated to make a side view of each breast. Your technologist will make every effort to help position you so the pressure is as comfortable as possible.

Your Mammogram Results

A radiologist trained in breast imaging will interpret your mammogram and a report and the results will be sent to your doctor. Your physician will share the results with you. Contact your health professional or the mammography facility if you do not receive a report of results within 30 days. If there is a concern, you will hear from the mammography facility earlier. Do not assume that results are normal if you have not gotten them back. If your mammogram shows an area of concern, the radiologist who read your study will suggest additional tests to get more information. If your mammogram is normal, you should continue to get regular screening mammograms.
