UNC Health Pardee’s occupational therapy services help you live as independently as possible. Our occupational therapists are here to help you if you need assistance in learning or re-learning daily skills after an injury, illness or psychological issue.
The goal of occupational therapy is to restore your independence, following an injury, illness or orthopedic surgery, especially to the upper extremities including the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder. Pardee Physical Therapy’s occupational therapists teach or re-teach you how to perform daily skills to restore your quality of life.
Occupational therapy is often used to treat people with:
- Chronic musculoskeletal conditions, such as arthritis
- Carpal tunnel syndrome or other repetitive motion injuries
- Back pain or injuries
- Shoulder pain
- Ligament injuries or instability

- Adapted training for activities of daily living, such as feeding, bathing, dressing (Hendersonville location only)
- Lymphedema management (Hendersonville location only)
- Orthopedic rehabilitation (all locations)
- Neurological rehabilitation (all locations)
- Hand rehabilitation (all locations)
- Custom splint fabrication (all locations)
- Functional capacity assessments and job performance assessments (Hendersonville and Turtle Creek locations only)
Are You a Candidate for Occupational Therapy?
Occupational therapy is often used to treat people who have:
- Sudden serious health conditions such as a stroke, heart attack, brain injury, or amputation
- Chronic (ongoing) conditions, such as arthritis, multiple sclerosis or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Neurological or ongoing physiological issues such as Alzheimer's, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease) and multiple sclerosis (MS)
- A work-related injury
