3D-guided biopsies

UNC Health is one of two facilities in Western North Carolina to offer 3D-guided biopsy, a minimally invasive procedure that uses X-ray imaging techniques to gather breast tissue samples. This technique takes samples from lesions, which may be an indication of cancer and cannot be detected with the 2D standard guided biopsy. You won’t be able to tell the difference between traditional or 3D-guided biopsies during your procedure, but you can take comfort in knowing it is the highest level technology available for sampling lesions and allows for an easier procedure that takes less time and uses less radiation.
